Andy Johnson – a celebration

Celebrate the life of Andy Johnson and the impact he had on rowing on 4th September

The committee of the Cantabrigian Rowing Club invites you to an event to celebrate the transformative impact that Andy Johnson had on the club, and his influence elsewhere in rowing. We would be delighted if you would join us from 1:30pm on the afternoon of Sunday 4th September on the river or towpath of the Long Reach and afterwards at the Cantabs Boathouse.

Andy loved seeing people out on the water rowing, so we will start by getting as many people who wish to row or cox into a boat on the water to row en masse up the Long Reach, followed by some informal racing from a small selection of crews. Those who prefer to stay on dry land are invited to watch the spectacle from the towpath. On returning to the boathouse, from ~3pm to 5pm, we will serve afternoon tea, name boats in Andy’s memory, drink a toast and share reminiscences about Andy’s influence on individuals, the club and beyond.

Anyone planning to get into a boat is encouraged to wear Cantabs kit, or the kit of their current club if they have moved elsewhere. Everyone else is invited to wear whatever they feel comfortable in for a celebratory meeting with friends – rowing blazers are encouraged!

We very much hope you will be able to join us. Please let us know if you can via this link: https://forms.gle/MVHsMCk9UcN1KeX86. To help our planning, we’d appreciate responses by 28th August if at all possible.
