The closure of Hammersmith Bridge has brought significant disruption to local life in the area both on the land and on the water.
A planning application has now been made to build a ferry terminal at Harrods Wharf, directly opposite Fulham Reach Rowing Club, with a view to offering passenger crossings every 15 minutes. The scale of the plans indicate an investment intended to be more than temporary.
The local rowing community would benefit from a temporary crossing while the bridge itself is being repaired and fully recognises the interests of residents. However, there is great concern for the effect of a permanent service operating in this location.
The effect on local clubs would be highly significant, and for the wider community there is a risk to the many national standard events that are held on this reach.
Thames Regional Rowing Council have produced a document details their response which you can view here – clubs and rowers are encouraged to read and respond to the planning application on the Richmond Borough website here.
